FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the difference between USAV Teams and AAU Teams?
A: USAV is for elite level players who compete in USAV multi-day tournaments in major cities within the state of Florida and 1 national qualifier in Atlanta, GA. AAU teams compete in one day tournaments in close proximity to Marion County.
Q: How much will it cost for my daughter to play?
A: Competitive USAV team fees are $1500 and Development/AAU team fees are $1000. Development fees are $800. Boys team fees are TBD. Payments may be made in 6 month installments from November, 2009 - April, 2010. Payments may also be made in full in November, 2009 for a 5% discount.
Q: How do your fees compare with other clubs?
A: Research shows that our club fees are generally 25% lower than surrounding clubs. We are a very lean club...our coaches donate most of their time during practice and competitions.
Q: What is included in the club fee?
A: All uniforms, secondary insurance coverage, coaches supplements, tournament fees, gym lease, many hours of instruction, and related administrative expenses.
Q: What is not included in the club fee?
A: Hotel, airfares, ground transportation, and food.
Q: May I pay MCJ with a credit card?
A: Yes, please visit our payments page for more information.
Q: What if I am uncertain about wanting to play club volleyball?
A: Come experience our clinics and try outs and expose yourself to this level of play. You may also talk to directors and coaches about MCJ.
Q: When will I have to commit to the club?
A: You may commit to MCJ for the 2009-2010 club season beginning 9/1/2009. The deadline for committing to MCJ for the 2009-2010 club season is 11/30/2009.
Q: What if I decide not to play after I commit to the club?
A: We do not issue refunds once you commit to the club and money is expended on behalf of your child. Also, club director approval is required for any transfer if you decide to transfer to another club after giving your letter of intent to MCJ.
Q: What do I do if I have a problem or concern during the season?
A: The Club Directors select a Parent Liaison (PL) from each team to help with any problems or concerns. The PL is the mediator and the primary point of contact throughout the season. If a resolution is not reached, then the Club Directors will be consulted.
Q: What if I disagree with the coach's decision about my daughter's skills or playing time?
A: There is a mandatory 24 hour rule in efffect as of the first day of practice. This rule means that if you have any concerns about your daughters playing time come tournament time you are not to address the situation until 24 hours after the tournament (not tournament day). This is to protect our coaches, directors, players and parents from getting into heat of the moment arguements, or debates. Given 24 hours concerns and opinions can be expressed calmly and rationally. Conversations need to be held in person before or after practice (not during) and a club director must be present along with your teams coach.
Q: When will my daughter practice?
A: Teams will normally practice two to three nights per week. Practice schedules will be posted on this website shortly after teams are announced.
Q: How are the age divisions determined?
A: The age divisions are determined using the USAV age definition chart below:

10 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1999
12 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1997
13 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1996
14 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1995
15 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1994
16 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1993
17 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1992
18 & Under - Born on or after September 1, 1991 or were high school students in the 12th grade or below during the current academic year and were born on or after Sept 1, 1990

Q: How is this club governed?
A: Our club is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of the President, the Vice President, the Secretary, the Treasurer and board members at large.
Q: Will my child play within her/his age division?
A: Athletes may be asked to play up in an age division if it will benefit the player and the club. Athletes may not play in a lower age division.
Q: How is lodging handled?
A: Group blocks will be held before each tournament and information will be sent to each team head coach. Head Coaches will be responsible for passing the word to all parents on their team. The information will include:
Price
Location
Dates
Deadline for booking
Phone # to call
Once this information is disclosed parents are responsible for calling the hotel before the booking deadline and transferring one of the rooms into their name and reserving it under their credit card number. If parents do not reseve a room by the deadline, the remaining unbooked rooms will be released and parents will be responsible for making their own hotel reservations.
Q: How will we get to competitions?
A: Parents are responsible to provide/arrange for transportation to all practices and tournaments. Note: If you allow your daughter to ride with another family, make sure she has her medical release form with her in the event that medical care is required while she is outside of your care. Original forms will be maintained by the Club Director and Head Coaches.
Q: What should I expect if this is my first year?
A: Expect the best and prepare for the unexpected would be the best advice. Schedules change, players (and coaches) get sick, referees make bad calls, gymnasiums are sometimes freezing cold, and days occasionally seem long. In spite of these small challenges, watching your daughter develop character and confidence while she learns to successfully interact with a new team and develop lasting friendships and skills makes it well worth the investment.
